EPAA is honoured to welcome Tony Seno Hartono as a new Emerging Payments Association Asia Ambassador.    Tony Seno Hartono is a seasoned Digital Technology, Policy, and Strategy Advisor with over three decades of experience in the IT industry. Currently, he serves as a Senior Information Technology Consultant at The World Bank, an Adjunct Researcher at the Center for Digital Society (CfDS), and an Information Technology Expert for the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology of the Republic of Indonesia. Throughout his career, Tony has held key positions at major technology companies, including 11 years as the National Technology Officer at Microsoft, and 13 years at Cisco, where he served as the Director of Advanced Technology for Service Providers and Banking sectors. Prior to that, he worked at IBM for 5 years as a Computer Engineer for Telecommunication, Banking, and Manufacturing. Tony is a strong advocate for Cloud Technology and Policy and has been instrumental in driving their adoption in the Government and Healthcare sectors in Indonesia.    Please join us in welcoming Tony! The Bank for International Settlements – BIS has launched Project Agora, a collaborative effort exploring the integration of tokenized commercial bank deposits with central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) leveraging smart contracts. This pressing issue was a hot topic during Blockchain APAC - Policy Week discussions, where EPAA's CEO Camilla Bullock and CSMO Linda Stanojevic participated and shared insights. "Navigating complex regulatory requirements is crucial, especially with increasing reforms and jurisdictional differences," stated Camilla Bullock during her panel. "At EPAA, we advocate for cross-country engagement and standardised definitions to tackle industry challenges. Let's innovate cross-border payments for seamless transactions akin to international calls, with blockchain at the forefront." Key highlights included discussions on cross-border payments, with speed and cost driving interest in USD pegged stablecoins. Achieving interoperability is vital for mainstream adoption, with technical progress outpacing regulatory alignment. ASIC emphasised a balanced approach to financial services frameworks, prioritising consumer protection, market integrity, and innovation. In the evolving regulatory landscape, compliance isn't black and white. It's essential for financial service providers to interpret regulations accurately. As global frameworks for stablecoins emerge, proportionate regulation is key to fostering innovation and competition, ensuring a fair playing field for all stakeholders.
